"Corfield was a brave, gallant and most efficient sergeant-major. Always cool, calm and collected,in and out of the line, he was "on parade" at all times, and did his work without regard either to officer or to man, insisting that duty in the battalion came before anything else. He was highly respected by all and his death was a great loss to the battalion."
