SIMMICH, Frank Rudolph
Service no 16 Private Rostered Driver 9th Battalion A.I.F
Born in Brisbane on the 10th June 1885. Son of Mrs Alice Amelia SIMMICH. He was a Carter. Enlisted on the 22nd August 1914 in Brisbane. He served in Gallipoli, Egypt & France. Was killed in action on the 22nd August 1916 in France.
Frank's battalion joined with the British Expeditionary Forces & he embarked on the troop ship IONIAN to join with the Middle East Forces in the GALLIPOLI CAMPAIGN. THE IONIAN arrived at Alexandria, Egypt on the 22nd March 1915 & Frank was detached for transport duty on the 25th April 1915. He returned to Alexandria from Gallipoli on the 19th May 1915. Frank then joined up with the British Expeditionary Forces on the 26th March 1916 & embarked on the ship MARYLAND to travel to Marseilles in France where he disembarked on the 2nd April 1916. He later reverted to the 9th Battalion in France on the 5th August 1916. Sadly Frank was killed in Action in France on the 22nd August 1916. His name with many others are on the WALL at VILLERS - BRETONNEUX in France. Frank was entitled to the 1914/15 Star British War Medal & Victory Medal These were sent to his father MR R. W. SIMMICH as he had never married or had children.

Died 13th of June 1950 and is buried at Ipoh, Batu Gajah, Malaya.
