Enlisted 23 August 1915 Served on the Western Front Awarded Distinguished Conduct Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty He was wounded in five places, and left unconscious. When he came to, and was making his way to the rear, he met a carrying party who had lost direction. He at once took charge of them, and guided them to the front line, and then returned, but fainted on reaching the support line.' Awarded Military Medal 'During the operations at BROODSEINDE RIDGE east of YPRES on 6th October, 1917, Pte. SKINNER showed great gallantry and devotion to duty. When carrying rations to the front line a number of his party were wounded. Notwithstanding the fact that they were subjected to heavy shell fire, Pte. SKINNER assisted in dressing the wounds of his comrades and carrying them to the dressing station. Eventually under the most trying conditions he delivered the rations at the front line.' Returned to Australia 12 May 1919
