Occupation prior to enlistment Labourer Enlisted 11 December 1915 Awarded Distinguished Conduct Medal 'For continued acts of gallantry and devotion to duty during the period from 25 February to 17 September, 1918. He kept his squadron together under the most trying circumstances including destruction of their dwelling on six separate occasions. On 12 April 1918, near Buire, an aeroplace was lying derelict close to the track along which rations were carried. One of the bombs had its detonator exposed. The spot was under enemy observation, and, when he started out to salve the bombs, it was subjected to shell fire. He made three trips, and salved the bombs, thus removing the danger to the ration carriers.'
