Occupation prior to enlistment Stock and Station Agent Enisted 25 May 1916 Served on the Western Front Awarded Military Cross 'On July 31st 1917, at MESSINES, this officer was in command of Left Assault Company during the operations. Due to his careful training and painstaking accuracy of instruction and organisation, his Company carried out a complicated manoeuvre of assault, retirement, and reorganisation to taks in spite of the fact that three out of four Platoon leaders were casualties. Under very heavy shell fire Capt. ST JOHN supervised the work of this Company and their tasks and by his coolness inspired confidence in his men.
